Description
The Evanston Roundhouse was built between 1912 and 1914 by the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR). With its turntable (still operational) and 28 bays, the structure was utilized by UPRR to repair its railcars and engines.
In 1971, UPRR vacated the site and donated most of the 27-acre area to the City of Evanston. In 2009, the first of four sections was completely restored (with funding from the Wyoming Business Council) and is utilized as community event space for both public and private functions.
This photo was taken of a section that is still waiting to be restored. The building is HUGE and the parts that have been refurbished are gorgeous!

Wonderful capture! We have an abandoned one near us that I've taken pictures of.

Thank you, Jim! I think I read somewhere that there aren't very many of these roundhouses left. We are fortunate to have them nearby!

I love the tones and the patterns Sue. Wonderful shot! And I'm so glad they're saving the building and fixing it up. Very cool. I'd love to see the fixed up part too. L/F!
Sue Smith replied:
Thank you very much, Meg! I'll try to get some photos to you soon. I don't think any of them are worthy of FAA, but you will be able to get an idea of what they have done. They have finished restoring the Machine Shop and it is amazing!
